Launch of Business Boost ESRC IAA: Connecting Social Scientists with Industrial Strategy opportunities
A half day event which will help you to:
- Learn more about the Industrial Strategy and the funding opportunities that are available.
- Understand what internal funding and resources are available to you and how to apply (CASE studentships, placements, seed corn funding)
- Establish and/or engage in a research network focused on key themes from the Industrial Strategy such as Productivity, Financial Vulnerability, New Services, Audiences of the Future, and Healthy Ageing
Who should attend?
- Social Scientists interested in connecting with businesses to work on priority issues in the Industrial Strategy
- Early career researchers
- PhD students
By the end of the event you will have had the opportunity to be part of a focused breakout session on Productivity, Financial Resilience and New Services or Audiences of the Future to start to develop new research networks and make a pitch for internal funding to support your work (up to £1,500).

9.15 Welcome and overview of the Business Boost project and the programme for the day (Faculty PVC Prof. Todd Landman) A25 lecture theatre
9.30 Overview of the funding opportunities available (Sally Bowden) A25 lecture theatre
9.45 The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund: Current funding calls and how to influence future themes (Ben Sumner, Deputy Director, R&I) A25 lecture theatre
Case studentships and NPIF - an overview (Prof. Alison Pilnick, Prof. Stephen Timmons) A25 lecture theatre
10.30-12noon Coffee and Facilitated Network Development session 1
Task for all groups in this session:
- Identify potential for interdisciplinary research and key research strengths in Nottingham
- Identify potential for non-academic partner involvement
- Key sector needs and related research potential
- Assess potential for cross-institutional collaboration (including Midlands Graduate School consortium but not restricted to that)

12-12.30 Lunch, Foyer
12.30-1.30 Facilitated Network Development session 2:
Tasks for all groups in this session:
- Identify potential for ECR and PGR involvement in network development, project pilots and/or larger scale grant capture.
- Define network development programme over 6-10 months, outcomes and partnerships
